YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio – September 8, 2006 – Later this month people from around the country will gather in Yellow Springs to hear nationally recognized speakers address the pressing issue of ‘Peak Oil’ and lifestyle alternatives to our high energy way of life.

The Community Solution annual fall conference, this year titled Beyond Energy Alternatives, will be held in Antioch College’s Kelly Hall from Friday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 24 and features keynote talks by Vicki Robin, co-author of Your Money or Your Life and David Orr, author of Earth in Mind and Chair of Environmental Studies at Oberlin College.

“Peak Oil is the time when world oil production will begin to decline forever,” said Pat Murphy, executive director of Community Service, Inc. “This, the end of cheap abundant oil, represents an unprecedented challenge for humanity. Our conference will look at how each individual can make a difference, reduce CO2 emissions and help bring about a more peaceful world.”

Other nationally renowned speakers at the conference include Richard Heinberg, author of Powerdown: Options and Actions for a Post-Carbon World; Peter Bane, publisher of The Permaculture Activist magazine; Julian Darley, co-author of the forthcoming Relocalize Now!; Jeff Christian, director of the Building Technology Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Richard Olson, director of the Sustainability and Environmental Studies Program at Berea College; Sharon Astyk, Community-Supported-Agriculture farmer; Pat Murphy, executive director of Community Service; and Megan Quinn, outreach director of Community Service.

Conference participants will learn the latest information on Peak Oil and how it will affect our economy and our lives. They will discover the limitations of the proposed energy alternatives and how many could speed up global climate change. Participants will hear about solutions for low-energy food and farming, housing and transportation and explore the concepts of relocalization, sustainability, agrarianism, and more.

The Friday night keynote speech by Dr. David Orr and the Saturday night keynote by Vicki Robin will both start at 7pm. The cost for each is $15 for adults and $8 for students.
