The US political and corporate establishment began to address issues of oil scarcity as far back as the mid 20th century, and at every opportunity since then, chose the path of increasing consumption backed by overt militarism and covert neocolonial strategies involving the establishment of dictatorial puppet regimes ready to guard US access to oil, a patterm that continues in the latest round of resource wars in the middle east.
