Peak Oil is a Women's Issue
Sharon Astyk, Groovy Green
The Heck with Mars… The Peak Oil Movement Needs Women!!!
Let me be quite explicit here to begin with - when I speak or write about peak oil as a women’s issue, I do not mean what many people have taken the term “women’s issue” to mean - that is, something that is solely and primarily the interest of women, and therefore irrelevant to men, or a situation where women’s interests are in some way in opposition with the interests of men.
I mean, instead, that peak oil has not been envisioned or considered seriously as an issue with particular impacts upon and considerations for women, and that women and the men who care about women - any man with a mother, sister, wife, female partner, lover or friend, daughter or any other relationship with women - that is to say, all men and all women - need to think carefully about how women are going to be affected by peak oil.
When I call for women to join the peak oil movement, it is not because our interests are different than the interests of the men presently working on that subject, but because without us, those men may not perceive the impact of their actions upon women, or the importance of the female perspective.
I have no doubt that men are just as concerned about the fate of their children as women are, that they care as deeply as women do that their mothers not spend their old age in terrible poverty and that their female friends are well educated, free, healthy and safe. What I think women bring to the table is greater consciousness of the impact of peak oil on women’s bodies, women’s lives and women’s goals. But whatever future we envision, it will only be accomplished as a joint and human project

Blackwater mention LATOC
One of the commenters over at TheOilDrum.com mentioned that Blackwater, private security firm with close ties to the US Republican party mentioned Matt Savinar's Life After The Oil Crash website in the BREAKING NEWS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL section of the Blackwater Tactical Weekly:
Life After the Oil Crash
Civilization as we know it is coming to an end soon. This is not the wacky proclamation of a doomsday cult, apocalypse bible prophecy sect, or conspiracy theory society. Rather, it is the scientific conclusion of the best paid, most widely-respected geologists, physicists, and investment bankers in the world. These are rational, professional, conservative individuals who are absolutely terrified by a phenomenon known as global "Peak Oil."
UK Oil Production Lowest For 28 Years
Chris Vernon, The Oil Drum UK
On 26th Oct '06 the DTI updated their monthly oil statistics. The key quote is:
Oil production in the period June 2006 to August 2006 was 12.1 per cent lower than a year ago.
This isn't good news and perhaps we are becoming weary of such announcements however there is a little more we can say about these recent numbers...

Dan Bednarz on peak oil and public health.
Paul Roth, Peak Oil Medicine
Dan Bednarz is a public health professional and president of Energy & Healthcare Consultants of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His company focusses on energy and the future of public & private healthcare, including risk assessment and management, scenario generation and strategic planning.
Later today Dan is presenting a paper entitled “Leadership, environmental scanning and the future of public health: The case of peak oil” at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in Boston.
He has graciously allowed me to publish his presentation here on peak oil medicine, as well as providing me with an advance copy to review. You can read my take on Dan’s message below, or download his paper in pdf format here: Public Health and Peak Oil (Bednarz)
The main thrust of his presentation is that public health (both academic and real world) is endangered by the coming peak in global oil production.
